Death and Dying

Dying is a part of living, and as such, you will probably die... a lot... while adventuring in Eaxia. This is no cause for concern. The young are especially succeptible to dying as they are yet inexperienced in combat and have not had enough time to train their bodies to sustain more injuries.

When you die, you drop anything that you were carrying in your hands as well as all the gold you were carrying. These items stay with your body until you or someone else retrieves them. There are two options once you succumb to death. You can RELEASE your hold on life or you can wait to be rescued. If you release, you will lose a percentage of your knowledge experience (XP) in the process. As you level within your guild, the cost of releasing will increase. You will receive a new body free of injury at the mages guild of Semanri, and you will have to make your way back to the site of your death to retrieve your belongings. Everything you were wearing when you died will be held in a grave and you must LOOK IN GRAVE to see the items. You can now get the items and wear them once you return to your grave.

The second option while dead is to wait for rescue. Other adventurers receive a message when someone dies, and through the use of the mage spell Locate or animal companions, they can determine where the person fell. Fallen adventurers are usually rescued and given healing and resurrection. However, this might not be the case when you are adventuring at a time when no one is capable of helping you. In this case, you will either need to wait possibly a long time for help or use the first option and RELEASE.

Ensyiatite devices work partially when you are dead. You will be able to hear the thoughts of others though you cannot project your own. This is reassuring for some, because they can hear that help is on the way.

If your body sustained mortal wounds which caused your death, you will need to be healed to the point where you can hold life. This means you cannot be resurrected without a head or other vital body part. If you have bleeding wounds, these can be tended without being healed but only if the tending is perfect. Any seepage of blood will cause death upon resurrection, as your vitality is still very low when you are brought back to life. Other deaths are merely vitality deaths. That is, your body sustained enough small hits to sap all of your vitality (general health). In this case, you can be resurrected without healing if needs be.

Prevention of death is something you will have to learn by doing. Common sense usually prevails in most situations (i.e. Don't charge into an area teeming with creatures that you know will defeat you). However, sometimes you become overwhelmed quickly with no hope of escape. If you sustain a bleeding wound in combat, you can TEND this wound to staunch the bleeding. To do this, you need to have some bandages which can be purchased at the General Store in Semanri (5 gold for 100 bandages).

To tend the wound, empty your hands of everything except the bandages. You can tend with the bandages in your left or right hand, though using your left hand is more difficult. Then you TEND MY [body part - head, right arm, torso, etc]. This will take some time (roundtime) , and your success and the time it takes depends on your Heal skill. The only way to practice this skill is to tend yourself or others. Some areas are harder to tend than others. Your limbs are easier to tend than your torso, and your head is the most difficult of all.

You can also use potions to help stay alive while in combat. With the current alchemy system, you can only heal vitality with potions, not actual wounds. Wound healing is still solely in the realm of Healers and those evolved classes who hailed from the Cleric guild (some Druids and Paladins). Vitality potions are, in order of potency: swirling purple potion, glowing purple potion, and indigo potion. Glowing white potion is also used to cure poison sustained some creatures that use poison attacks. For information on how to make these potions, please visit Astrid's Alchemy Reference.

If you are bleeding and there are no healers around, you can visit the Healer guild in Semanri. The Guildleader Yeenol is an expert at trauma healing and will heal all of your bleeding wounds when you enter the quandary - an infirmary for those whose injuries are so sever their outcome is unsure.
