Getting Around

Navigating around the realm of Eaxia is quite a simple matter once you get used to it. If you are new to these types of adventures, it might seem a little daunting at first, but have no fear, you will be a professional in no time!

The general layout of each area or "room" includes the area name, description (all that text that brand new adventurers feel drawn to read completely), other presences (objects or adventurers), weather messaging, and obvious directional exits. These exits are usually expressed in directional terms (north, south, southeast, etc.), but can also include other less obvious exits such as doors and archways. Even more deceptive are the hidden exits found in the description of the room itself. Always feel free to wander around exploring, you never know what you will find.

You have several options to move in the directions available to you. To see the area you are in, type LOOK or simple L. Here is an example:

        [Tes'Kata Village, A Path] <--- Area Name
A trampled path meanders around to the back of the trio of towers of the         paladin's guild that loom haughtily into the sky to the east and south. Just         behind the north tower here, the backyard of the main tower is visible just south         along the path. <--- Area Description
You also see: a log cabin. <--- Other presences
The sun sails high in a cloudless sky. <--- Weather Messaging
Obvious exits: northeast and south. <--- Obvious Exits

There are three options available here. You can try to enter the cabin (GO CABIN), or you can go to the northeast or the south. The cabin, however, is a private home and you cannot enter it unless as a designated guest by the owner. So our options are northeast or south. There are three ways in which you can move in these directions. You can type out the entire direction (NORTHEAST or SOUTH); you can abbreviate to the conventional letters of N and S; or you can use the numberpad on your keyboard (with NUMLOCK off). Find which way is easiest for you.

For hidden exits and others that can be seen, such as the cabin, you simple GO [target], where the target is a door, arch, staircase, etc.

There are also faster ways to travel from place to place with the use of magical devices. Two such devices available in the realms are crystal fragments and shards. These are available for purchase at The Mystic Strobe in Semanri. Shards are the cheapest way of instantaneously travelling across the land. They require the usage of specific gems, each representing a particular place. Fragments, on the other hand, can be tuned to specific points around the lands. These, unlike shards, require knowledge of the Use Magic Device skill in order to work properly over farther distances. If you attempt to tune to a place above your skill, you run the risk of shattering your fragment. For a chart on the usage of shards and fragments, please visit Astrid's Treehouse.

On a personal note, I find it troubling that most of our young become dependant on these devices at too young an age, and they never have the joy of exploring the land and getting around on their own two feet. Take my advice and get out and explore! If needs be, use one of my maps for reference, but sometimes it's fun to get lost. I had such fun getting lost as I was mapping the lands, and I wish everyone could experience that.
